The book the Count of Monte Cristo tells us about the determination of a man and his willpower. This splendid book was written by Alexandre Dumas. The protagonist of the book is a young lad of nineteen who goes by the name ‘Edmond Dantes’. He was a sailor on the ship named ‘The Pharon’ and soon to become the captain of the very ship. He
was deeply in love with a young Catlan girl named ‘Mercedes’ whom he was going to marry soon. He lived with his father who was his only family and took taker of him. On the day of the wedding of Edmond and young Mercedes, Edmond is sent to jail for committing an act of treason against the emperor and is sentenced lifelong imprisonment. He is sent of to the prison on the island of ‘Chateau D’If’ a place where the most notorious of the criminals go to. At the prison he meets a man by the name of ‘Abbe Faria’. With the help of his friend and only companion in the prison, he finds out that someone intentionally had framed him as a traitor. He soon discovers the name of his conspirators, they are- his colleague whose name is ‘Baron Danglars’, a young catlan who loved Mercedes deeply and one whom at once upon a time considered a friend whose name was ‘Frenand Mondego’ and the last one was the son of a very dear friend of the captain of the Pharon who goes by the name ‘ de Villefort’. After fourteen years of waiting Abbe Faria and Edmond Dantes finally put in place a plan to escape the dreadful prison of the Chateau D’If. The night before their grand escape the former of the prisoners that is Abbe Faria felt gravely ill he later revealed that he had fallen prey to the disease that his family had succumbed to from generations. In his final moments he told Edmond Dantes the location of a treasure worth a fortune on the Island of Monte Cristo and asked him to take it all and complete his revenge on those
who destroyed his life. The rest of the story then follow as to how Edmond disguises himself as the ‘Count of Monte Cristo’ and plots a scheme to take down his conspirators who now have become very rich and powerful. At the end Edmond forgives his loves Mercedes for marrying Fernand and takes her and her son Albert to the very home his father had died of hunger. This book has taught me a lot about honesty, love, commitment and above all the determination of a person and the things he can do if he decides on something.
